Turning on this feature can free up some data for other users and devices. Not only that but using it on Wifi for test purposes to see well it works and if the apps you use can save on data.

For data saving on mobile data plans this could be useful for those on a low budget data plan (8GB of high speed data and under) and that have unlimited 2G data for things like browsing, emailing, and instant messaging. This mode will help even for those with or without data rollover.
